world breastfeeding week

this week is world breastfeeding week and its celebrated to help encourage breastfeeding and the health of babies. the theme this year is foundation of life.

breastfeeding plays such a huge role in starting your baby's health off right, which gives the theme this year it's appropriateness - you're setting up the foundation for lifelong health. from first latch to last drop you are providing the perfect elixir for your sweet child. but beyond the health benefits, you are creating a unique bond between baby and yourself that can be cherished for ever.

however; there can be times when you feel like you want to give up, or that you might not be making enough milk, or that you're so touched out that you just don't know how much longer you can take it. maybe baby is a biter or a comfort nurser (like all three of my children) and you're nipples feel as though someone took some sandpaper and aggressively rubbed them raw. or maybe you and baby just need a little help in getting the perfect latch. not every breastfeeding journey can be beautiful and perfect and problem free; and that is where we need to be affirmed that we can do this.

just like labor, it can be easy to let your thoughts and focus waver when you're in the thick of things while breastfeeding. and just like labor, affirmations can be so incredibly helpful and encouraging. i know my journeys - while successful - were quite bumpy from time to time and i could have used some affirmations to meditate on when i felt like i just couldn't anymore. so i created some free breastfeeding affirmations for all you mamas out there who just need a little extra encouragement. i know that once this baby comes in december, i'll need a little extra encouragement myself; even though this isn't my first rodeo.

right click on each image below to save and print them out on card stock at home. cut them out and place them next to your nursing station, or tuck them in the diaper bag or purse, or keep some in your journal so when you find yourself exhausted from another midnight feeding, you can get a little pick me up. i hope you find these encouraging and helpful!

happy breastfeeding!
